Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, delivered opening remarks via video message at the GBA-ASEAN Conference on Trade, Finance & Sustainable Development held in Hong Kong, China, on 31 October-1 November 2025. The GBA-ASEAN Conference on Trade, Finance & Sustainable Development, organised by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), in collaboration with the University of Hong Kong and the Institute for International Affairs Qianhai, aimed to deepen the Greater Bay Area (GBA) - ASEAN cooperation, foster sustainable development partnerships, and facilitate the discussions on strengthening trade, finance, and connectivity. As part of the Forum, the GBA-ASEAN Initiative (GAI) was formally launched on 31 October 2025. The Initiative aims to promote trade, financial, and infrastructure connectivity between the GBA and ASEAN, facilitate strategic business engagements and political dialogue, and conduct research to generate policy recommendations aligned with national development strategies of both China and ASEAN.
