WASHINGTON - Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent announced today the key appointment of Kate Tyrrell to serve as Treasury Chief of Staff.
Most recently, Ms. Tyrrell served as the Chief of Staff, Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Senior Deputy Comptroller at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). At the OCC, Ms. Tyrrell was responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the OCC front office, overseeing the bureau's public and legislative affairs, and providing direct support to the Comptroller. Ms. Tyrrell played a key role in advising and coordinating policy and operations within the OCC and throughout the interagency process, including with the U.S. Department of the Treasury. In her role as Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Tyrrell oversaw the agency's Office of Management, including the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Administrative Operations, Human Capital, and Information Technology Services.
Prior to joining the OCC, Ms. Tyrrell was a senior managing director at a real estate finance and investment firm. She also was the chief of staff to its founder and CEO. Prior to these roles, she served as Deputy Chief of Staff at the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and as the Deputy Executive Secretary at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Ms. Tyrrell began her federal service as the special counsel to the Chief Judge at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. She holds a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Maryland and a law degree from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.
