Youth Council Primed for Annual Community Rock Painting Night

The Simi Valley Youth Council invites residents of all ages to join the Annual Rock Painting Night from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Simi Valley Public Library. This free event brings the community together to paint rocks with inspirational messages and images that will be shared throughout the City.

Participants will be able to select a rock and decorate it with their own messages of hope and encouragement. Once painted, the rocks may be distributed by the artist or by Youth Council members, placed in visible spots around the community to brighten someone's day and serve as a reminder that help is available. All rocks and painting supplies will be provided at no cost. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth ages 10 to 14 and young adults ages 25 to 34, and the third leading cause of death for teens and young adults ages 15 to 24. It is often a response to overwhelming distress or feelings of hopelessness. Having thoughts of suicide does not always mean a desire to die; rather, it can indicate pain that feels unmanageable. Recognizing the warning signs and knowing where to turn for help are critical first steps in addressing this preventable issue. Rock Painting Night is part of the Youth Council's 2025 Suicide Prevention campaign. The Youth Council advises the Simi Valley City Council on matters affecting youth in the community and addresses key issues such as suicide prevention through its annual work plan and youth-oriented events. If you or someone you know is struggling or experiencing thoughts of suicide, help is available 24/7. Call 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline to speak with a trained counselor. If emergency medical care is needed, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For information about suicide warning signs, visit Know the Signs at https://www.suicideispreventable.org.
