MILTON, FL (Aug. 15, 2025) - The City of Milton has been named to receive $16,900,640 in Statewide Resilience Plan funding from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to support the design and construction of a new wastewater treatment plant. The project ranks 19th statewide for Fiscal Year 2025-26.
The award stems from the City's Resilient Florida Program grant application, originally submitted for a prior site. After Council voted to relocate the facility outside the wellfield protection zone, FDEP advised keeping the application active. The project has since been named for funding, but additional steps with FDEP are required before the award can be confirmed at the new location. The City will work diligently with FDEP to ensure project funding remains eligible at the relocated site.
The existing wastewater treatment plant, built in the 1980s, sits in a flood zone just 180 feet from the Blackwater River-making this replacement a critical step toward protecting Milton's long-term environmental resilience.
"This is a great day for Milton," said Assistant City Manager Sandra Woodbery. "Securing this funding moves the project forward to build a modern wastewater treatment plant on a more widely accepted site, and confirms City of Milton's perseverance and commitment to provide resilient environmentally sustainable wastewater treatment to its citizens."
