Cook Votes ‘Yes’ on Bill to Split Public, Private School Playoffs

Apr. 30, 2026

HARRISBURG - Rep. Bud Cook (R Greene/Washington) today voted "yes" on a bill that would allow the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) to create separate playoffs and championships for boundary and non-boundary schools.

Cook said he voted in favor of House Bill 41 because he feels it promotes fairness in competition.

"My vote reflects my belief that all student athletes deserve a fair and even playing field in competition," Cook said. "So often we see private schools are at an advantage because they can recruit athletes and create stronger, more competitive teams."

Cook has also supported the Save Women's Sports Act, which would not allow biological males to participate in women's sports.

"Just like men on women's teams have an unfair competitive advantage, so do teams full of specially recruited athletes have an unfair competitive advantage over our public school teams."

House Bill 41 now heads to the Senate for consideration.
