The Boise Airport will receive two grants totaling $8.88 million from the Federal Aviation Administration for infrastructure improvements tied to the future development of Concourse A and to help the airport better serve its growing region.
"As Boise continues to grow, we are intentional about how we invest in the infrastructure and services that keep our city moving and support the quality of life Boiseans enjoy. That means making local dollars go further by pursuing grants, building strong partnerships, and leveraging every available resource to deliver for residents," said Mayor Lauren McLean. "These FAA grants will help fund two Boise Airport infrastructure projects, supporting the airport's continued growth and ensuring that residents, businesses, and visitors stay connected to opportunity."
A $6 million grant will fund a portion of the equipment for a new central utility plant that will expand the airport's electrical capacity to support future Concourse A development. The project will also provide more energy-efficient and reliable heating and cooling systems throughout the entire terminal.
A second grant totaling $2.88 million will fund new elevators and/or escalators that meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, improve passenger safety and enhance the overall travel experience.
"Boise Airport is experiencing record growth, and these investments will help ensure we continue providing a safe, efficient and welcoming experience for everyone who travels through BOI," said Airport Director Rebecca Hupp. "These projects will modernize critical infrastructure, improve accessibility for passengers and support the airport's long-term ability to serve the Treasure Valley and the entire region."
Future Concourse A will include up to 10 gates, helping the airport accommodate continued passenger growth, improve operational efficiency and provide additional space and amenities to enhance the traveler experience.
The grants are part of the FAA's Airport Terminal Program, a highly competitive federal funding initiative created to modernize aging airport terminals, improve multimodal connections and create more family-friendly travel spaces. This year, airports in 40 states and Guam received funding through the program.
Passenger traffic at Boise Airport has grown 81% since 2015, with more than 5 million travelers passing through the airport in 2025. As one of Idaho's key transportation gateways, Boise Airport plays a critical role in supporting tourism, business growth and the region's economy.
