NEWS: Sen. Schiff Delivers Nearly $13.5 Million in Federal Funding for Central Valley, Part of $254 Million Secured for California

Schiff secures federal funding for critical investments in affordable housing, infrastructure, fire safety, and career and education development programs

Fresno, CA -Today, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) is announcing he secured nearly $13.5 million in federal funding for critical Central California projects that will improve water reliability and sustainability, support affordable housing infrastructure, and improve education and workforce development programs. The funding is part of the $254,457,366 in total federal funding Schiff delivered for California for the 2026 fiscal year, with the passage of recent funding bills.

"I'm proud to have fought for and delivered millions in federal investments to Central Valley in my first year in the U.S. Senate," said Senator Schiff. "This critical funding will allow projects in local communities to break ground and get to the last mile, and it delivers on key California priorities of bringing down costs by increasing affordable housing supply, improving critical infrastructure to protect water supply, ensuring fire safety, and creating opportunities for education and career development. These investments would not be possible without the partnership of my colleague Senator Alex Padilla, our colleagues in the House, and community leaders who helped ensure that California receives the resources it deserves."

Senator Schiff fought for and delivered on the following key projects to directly invest in Central Valley communities, including:

  • $3.5 million for career development programs and equipment to bolster the number of health professionals in the San Joaquin Valley and take on health disparities and inequities within the region
  • Over $2.3 million to support workforce development and the establishment of an advanced manufacturing program in Reedley
  • $2 million for the Upper Kings River Water and Drought Resiliency Project to improve water and drought resiliency through the construction of 3,300 acres of groundwater recharge basins
  • $1.5 million to support Project FIRE, a first responder training facility to increase firefighting capacity in Merced County
  • Over $1 million to assist the wastewater treatment facility for Dos Palos
  • Over $1 million for a water tank replacement project in Dinuba
  • $1 million tosupport a new affordable 124-unit housing development in Fresno that will contribute to downtown economic revitalization
  • $1 million for building a Central California Food Bank volunteer center that will help combat food insecurity in Fresno
  • $737,000 for the 6th Street Pedestrian Bridge Project in Mariposa County to enhance the walkability of the downtown business area by improving access across Mariposa Creek
  • $100,000 for water supply improvements for Chowchilla and Athlone Water Districts
