Dallas ISD schools receive new book vending machines through community support
Editor's note: Spanish story included below
Thanks to the Dallas Education Foundation and the generosity of our community partners, more Dallas ISD students will experience the excitement of selecting and owning books. Additional recipients will be selected throughout the school year, bringing even more opportunities to inspire lifelong readers across the district.
"For many of our students, school is where they have the greatest access to books," said Aaron Shannon, principal of Birdie Alexander Elementary School. "Giving them the opportunity to earn and choose a book of their own is about so much more than a reward. It's about creating excitement around reading, building confidence, and helping every child see themselves as a reader."
Birdie Alexander is just one of a handful of campuses that will be receiving a book vending machine this semester.
A complete list of ribbon cuttings is below:
Hogg New Tech Center: 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1; made possible by Pizza Hut

"The book vending machine will become a cornerstone of Casa View's Blueprint for Excellence, helping us build a culture where reading is celebrated and every child is valued," said Moises Mercado, principal. "Each book earned becomes a permanent addition to a student's home library, encouraging reading beyond the school day and fostering family engagement."
