Ms. Frizzle and her spectacular bus are coming to town! TheaterWorksUSA's family musical, The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System, based on the best-selling book series by Scholastic, arrives at The Great New York State Fair's Chevy Court on Sunday, September 6, at 1 p.m.
When a field trip takes an unexpected turn, Ms. Frizzle turns chaos into adventure-launching her class on an unforgettable journey through the solar system. As they explore the unique environments of Mercury, Venus, and Mars, tensions rise, and rivalries threaten to derail the mission. With Ms. Frizzle at the helm, the students must learn to work together to find their way home, discovering that teamwork is just as important as science. Packed with excitement, humor, and educational discovery, this family-friendly adventure brings beloved characters to life for audiences of all ages (and recommended for kids ages 5-10).
"Offering programming that families can enjoy together is a priority for us," said Fair Director Julie LaFave. "I know fans of all ages will delight in the memories made by The Magic School Bus, and we're happy to bring it to fairgoers live on stage."
The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System is written by Marshall Pailet (book) and Matthew Lee Robinson (music and lyrics), based on the book series by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen. The original creative team includes direction and choreography by Connor Gallagher (Broadway: Beetlejuice), set design by Jason Sherwood (Broadway: Living on Love), costume design by Sarah Cubbage (Broadway: Skylight, Fish in the Dark), and lighting design by David Lander (Broadway: The Lightning Thief, Torch Song).
The Fair starts Wednesday, August 26, and runs through Labor Day, Monday, September 7. All concerts are included in the price of admission, which will go on sale later this summer. The Great New York State Fair is the most affordable state fair in the country. Tickets are $8 for adults while admission is free for children under 12 and senior citizens aged 65 and older.
In total, The Fair's 2026 Chevrolet Music Series will feature 41 national recording acts. There will be a daily 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. concert at Chevy Court (located near Gate 1), and an 8 p.m. concert each evening at Suburban Park (located on the western end of the Fairgrounds, beyond the Midway). The Fair will also host two special shows at 9 p.m. on Friday, August 28 and September 4 at Chevy Court.
