Today, Governor Joe Lombardo announced a series of proactive steps to protect Nevada's Jewish community, including urging heightened vigilance and coordination among law enforcement agencies and convening a statewide Antisemitism Working Group in response to recent antisemitic attacks on Jewish communities worldwide.
Earlier today, Governor Lombardo sent a letter to the Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association calling for increased awareness, preparedness, and coordination among state, local, and federal law enforcement partners. While there are no known or specific threats to Nevada at this time, the Governor emphasized that recent global incidents underscore the importance of proactive security measures, particularly as communities gather for holiday observances and other public events.
Governor Lombardo encouraged law enforcement agencies to maintain a visible presence and remain alert around synagogues, Jewish community centers, schools, and other locations where members of the Jewish community gather, noting that strong coordination and visibility are essential to both prevention and public reassurance.
In addition to these immediate public safety measures, Governor Lombardo is convening a statewide Antisemitism Working Group to address the growing threat of antisemitism and related forms of hate across Nevada. The Working Group will bring together leaders from Nevada's Jewish community, educators, advocates, and law enforcement professionals to advise the Governor on emerging challenges, community safety concerns, and long-term policy solutions. The working group will consist of the following individuals, among others: Jolie Brislin, Elliot Malin, Stefanie Tuzman, Rabbi Cookie Lea Olshein, Rabbi Benny Katz, Ken Mead, Sydney Atfield, Dr. Gregory Brown, Dr. Steve Saxe, and Shimon Greenspan.
The Antisemitism Working Group will serve as a forum for listening, learning, and action, with members tasked with elevating community concerns and offering guidance on prevention strategies, education efforts, and public safety initiatives. The group is expected to convene shortly after the new year and will develop policy recommendations for submission to the Governor's Office by April 15, 2026, as Governor Lombardo shapes his agenda for the 2027 legislative session.
"Nevada is home to a diverse and vibrant Jewish community, and like all communities, they have the right to gather, worship, and celebrate without fear," said Governor Joe Lombardo. "The recent antisemitic attacks we've seen across the world are cowardly and despicable. While there are no specific threats to Nevada at this time, I am taking decisive action to ensure our Jewish community is protected. That means heightened vigilance from law enforcement, strong coordination at every level, and sustained engagement with community leaders to confront antisemitism wherever it exists. Public safety will always be my administration's top priority."
The Office of the Governor will continue to closely monitor developments, work with law enforcement partners, and engage directly with community leaders to ensure the safety and security of all Nevadans.
