BIRMINGHAM, AL - Representative Gary Palmer (AL-06) is pleased to announce Ever Waites from Westminster School at Oak Mountain as the winner of the Congressional Art Competition for Alabama's Sixth District. The winning artwork is titled "My Ebenezer."
Rep. Palmer presented Ever with his award certificate earlier this month. Upon presenting the award, Rep. Palmer released the following statement:
"We had a very talented group of students from across the district participate in this year's Congressional Art Competition. I'm impressed by each student's hard work and dedication to their craft," said Rep. Palmer. "Congratulations to Ever on winning the competition this year. I hope he continues to use his talent to create more art in the future."
A virtual gallery of all entries from the Sixth District can be viewed on Rep. Palmer's website until May 31. They can also be viewed on Rep. Palmer's Facebook page. The winning artwork is featured at the top of the online gallery.
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Students submit entries to their representative's office, and a panel of artists in the sixth district select the winning entry. The winners' works will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.
