The Northern Michigan University Orchestra directed by Barbara Rhyneer and the NMU Choirs directed by Erin Colwitz will present a concert titled "Baroque to the Future" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Reynolds Recital Hall.
This concert will showcase orchestral and choral performances from the Baroque Era and works from the 21st century. Special features of this concert include the "Guitar Concerto" by Vivaldi with Christopher Schoelen as soloist; Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus"; and "Fields of Cloverland," an anthem for the Upper Peninsula, by Timothy DeMarte, arranged for choir and orchestra by Barbara Rhyneer and featuring the local folk ensemble The Knockabouts.
The orchestra will also perform a rock number, "Lady Gaga Hit Mix," and a jazz bossa nova piece, "From the Start" by Laufey and Spencer Steward, arranged by Michael Kamuf. Additional works by Handel include the British anthem "Zadok the Priest" and two movements from Concerto Grosso No. 4, Op. 3.
