Twice as Nice: Stony Brook Men, Women Win CAA Lacrosse Championships

The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team has made a habit of winning a conference championship and making it to the NCAA Tournament, and this year was no different. This time, however, the men's team did the same, giving SBU two CAA champions on the same day.

The women's team dominated Towson, 18-7, Saturday at LaValle Stadium to claim its fourth straight CAA title and 12th conference championship overall, earning its 13th trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The victory continued the Seawolves' historic winning streak. They are just the second program ever to win four straight conference championships in the CAA, and the win over Towson improved their record to 38-0 in conference and conference tournament games as a member of the CAA. They have also won their last 99 games against a conference opponent, a streak dating back to the 2014 season.

Isabella Caporuscio led Stony Brook with six goals and an assist and was named the 2026 CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player. Her six goals were the most in a CAA Championship game since 2014. Katie Walsh added a season-high five goals.

Meanwhile, the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team won its first-ever CAA Championship on Saturday, upsetting No. 16 Towson, 13-11, at Towson University. It is the Seawolves' fourth-ever conference championship and NCAA Tournament berth, and the team's first visit to the Tournament in 14 years.

Goalkeeper Tommy Wilk was named the 2026 Men's Lacrosse Championship Most Outstanding Player, making 17 saves and posting a .607 save percentage in the title game. Justin Bonacci led the scoring with three goals, his fifth hat trick of the season, and an assist. Carson Boyle, Jack Cavalieri and Collin Williamson each scored twice.

The 11th-ranked women's team earned the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will host NEC champion Stonehill in the first round at LaValle Stadium, on Friday, May 8, at 1 pm, as announced during the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday night. Stony Brook will also host the NCAA First Round game between Boston College and Yale on May 8 after the Stony Brook/Stonehill game. The winners will meet in the NCAA Second Round on Sunday, May 10 at 12 pm at LaValle Stadium. All three contests will stream live on ESPN+.

The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team will face MAAC champion Marist in the Opening Round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament at Tenney Stadium in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Wednesday, May 6, at 7 pm, as announced during the men's NCAA Selection Show on Sunday night. The winner will advance to meet No. 1 seed Princeton on Sunday, May 10.
