Tulane's Office of Public Safety unveiled a new mobile command vehicle during Commencement week as part of its ongoing investment in campus safety and emergency readiness. The vehicle, designed to function as a self-sustaining emergency operations hub, will bolster response efforts across Tulane's uptown, downtown and northshore campuses during large-scale events, severe weather incidents, police actions and other emergencies.
The mobile command vehicle gives public safety personnel the ability to establish an on-site operational headquarters during rapidly evolving situations, enhancing field communication and streamlining coordination. Features include 360-degree cameras, multiple workstations for emergency personnel, meeting space for unified command operations and electrical generation that enables the unit to operate independently of external power sources.
"Safety remains our highest priority, and this vehicle expands our ability to respond quickly and effectively wherever support is needed," said Kirk Bouyelas, associate vice president of public safety. "Whether during campus events like the New Orleans Book Festival at Tulane University or emergency situations affecting our community, this investment strengthens our preparedness and reinforces our commitment to protecting the Tulane community."
The addition reflects Tulane's commitment to fostering a secure environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors while advancing collaboration among the university's public safety efforts across all campuses.
