MUNICH, GERMANY - Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Roger Wicker (R-MS), Chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, along with Senators Chris Murphy (D-CT), Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and Congressman Jim Himes (D-CT), met with Denis Becirovic, member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Christian Schmidt, High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the sidelines of the 2026 Munich Security Conference.

Ranking Member Shaheen reaffirmed her strong support for Bosnia and Herzegovina's sovereignty, territorial integrity and multi-ethnic character. The Senator expressed deep concern over Milorad Dodik's continued secessionist rhetoric and illegal actions that threaten the Dayton Peace Agreement and regional stability. She underscored the importance of continued U.S. and international engagement, including support for democratic institutions and the rule of law, to ensure a peaceful and prosperous future for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. She committed to conduct oversight of the implementation of her Western Balkans Democracy and Prosperity Act to ensure deeper U.S. engagement with Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.

Importantly, Ranking Member Shaheen underscored her commitment to press the Trump Administration to reimpose sanctions on Mr. Dodik and those who undermine the Dayton Peace Agreement, which is a mandatory authority included in the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act.
