Washington, D.C. - On Tuesday, March 10, Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) joined local leaders in Prince William County to celebrate $1,000,000 in federal funds he secured to design and construct a pedestrian bridge across a busy six-lane section of U.S. Route 1 to improve access to the Woodbridge Virginia Railway Express (VRE) station.
This project will connect the North Woodbridge Town Center directly to High-Capacity Transit at the Woodbridge VRE Station. It will also include ramps for ADA accessibility and bicycle use.
"Investing in safe, reliable infrastructure is how we strengthen our communities and expand opportunity," said Vindman. "This $1 million investment will help connect the North Woodbridge Town Center directly to the Woodbridge VRE Station, making it easier and safer for residents to access high-capacity transit. I'm proud to have secured these federal funds to support growth and better connectivity for Prince William County - and I'm grateful for the cooperation and diligence it took from our local partners to move this project forward."
Vindman was joined by VRE Deputy CEO & Chief Engineer Dallas Richards, Chair Deshundra Jefferson, Supervisor Andrea Bailey, and Prince William County Director of Transportation Rick Canizales.
"Improving pedestrian access to the Woodbridge VRE Station supports not only our riders but also the broader goal of connecting more communities to transit. We appreciate Congressman Vindman's support and Prince William County's leadership in advancing infrastructure projects that strengthen mobility and expand access to regional transportation," said Katie Choe, CEO, Virginia Railway Express.
"There's a lot of exciting development coming to Woodbridge and the North Woodbridge Pedestrian Bridge will be a key part of that transformation. This bridge will enhance safety along Route 1 and more easily connect commuters to the VRE, which is a lifeline for our community," said Deshundra Jefferson, Chair, Prince William Board of County Supervisors. "I applaud Congressman Vindman and his team for securing vital federal funding for this project. This project is truly a reflection of local, regional, and federal cooperation."
"I'm here wearing two hats, as both the Potomac District Supervisor and as the 2026 VRE Operations Board Chair," said Andrea Bailey, Potomac District Supervisor, Prince William County. "I want to express my deepest gratitude to Congressman Vindman for his continued support of Prince William County and his recognition of what transit provides our cherished community."
"We're grateful to the Congressman for the million-dollar check that we're getting to make this project possible," said Rick Canizales, Director of Transportation, Prince William County.

BACKGROUND
For FY2026 the U.S. House of Representatives reopened the Community Project Funding process, allowing Members of Congress to request targeted federal investments for local projects. Congressman Vindman worked closely with community leaders across Virginia's Seventh District to identify and submit requests that reflect the needs of the region.
Community Project Funding is designed to strengthen the federal appropriations process by centering local input and collaboration. Through this process, Members of Congress partner directly with the communities they represent to advance projects that are planned, supported, and led at the local level.
To qualify, projects must be submitted by a locality or non-profit and meet the eligibility requirements of existing federal grant programs. Submissions must demonstrate strong community support, ensuring that funded projects are responsive to local needs and have backing from the communities they serve.
