SCO Secretary-General Participated in the Political Parties Forum

On April 23, 2025, in Urumqi, China, at the invitation of the Chinese side, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Nurlan Yermekbayev, participated in the SCO Political Parties Forum. The theme of the event was: "Support the Shanghai spirit, promote sustainable development of the SCO: the responsibility and mission of political parties".

During the opening ceremony, speeches were given by the head of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Liu Jianchao; member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Party Committee, Ma Xinju; and representatives of the political forces of the SCO countries.

Speaking at the forum, Nurlan Yermekbayev discussed the development of the Organization and the ongoing "Year of Sustainable Development of the SCO" under Chinese leadership. It was emphasized that against the backdrop of increasing global challenges and threats, the role of the Organization and its foundational principles in ensuring security and stability, as well as building democratic, fair, and multipolar international order, is only growing.

On the sidelines of the event, the Secretary-General participated in a meeting between high-ranking Chinese representatives and heads of delegations. He highly appreciated the role of the Forum as a platform for sharing experiences in governance among SCO countries and informed colleagues about the progress in preparing for the upcoming meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization in Tianjin.
