The University of New Mexico's open enrollment to revise and update individual benefits for active employees is now available through May 15, 2026.
Open Enrollment provides eligible employees the opportunity to review, update or make changes to their benefits for the upcoming fiscal year. All changes will take effect July 1, 2026, and remain in place through June 30, 2027.
During this period, employees may enroll in, modify or cancel a range of benefit options, including medical, dental and vision coverage, as well as life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment coverage, short- and long-term disability, and flexible spending accounts. Employees may also add or remove dependents and review Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association, or VEBA, elections.
Open Enrollment is available to active benefits-eligible employees. VEBA-eligible employees and participants may also review and update their elections during this time.
Health insurance premiums will increase for the 2026-27 plan year due to rising health care costs. Employees are encouraged to carefully review their options and select the plan that best meets the needs of their household.
Flexible spending accounts must be re-elected each year. Employees who wish to continue participation must re-enroll during the Open Enrollment period.
Benefit elections must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on May 15. Once Open Enrollment closes, changes cannot be made unless an employee experiences a qualifying life event, such as marriage, birth or adoption, or a change in insurance coverage.
