Holiday changes for City services and facilities

December 17, 2025

Over the holiday season, Edmontonians using City of Edmonton services may experience changes of operating hours and service levels.

As you make plans for the next couple of weeks, please note the following changes:

Edmonton Transit Service (ETS)
Transit service will be reduced on holidays and in alignment with public, Catholic and post-secondary school breaks.

Specific service reductions or additions include:
  • December 22, 23 and 24:All buses will run on reduced weekday service.
  • December 25:Buses and LRT will operate using reduced Sunday schedules.
  • December 26:Buses and LRT will operate using Saturday schedules. There will also be additional service on Route 4.
  • December 29 and 30:All buses will run on reduced weekday service.
  • December 31: From the start of service until 6 p.m., all buses will run on reduced weekday service. From 6 p.m. until the end of service, all transit riders can board buses, LRT and DATS fare-free. Some routes will also have extended service until 3 a.m.
  • January 1: Buses and LRT will operate using Sunday schedules.
  • January 2: All buses will run on reduced weekday service. Regular weekday service resumes on LRT.
  • January 5:Regular weekday service resumes on buses.
Riders are encouraged to double-check schedules using the trip planner on edmonton.ca/transitor Google Maps.

On Demand Transit
On Demand Transit will be available on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Neighbourhood service is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and service for seniors residences is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information on On Demand Transit can be found at

Waste collection
There is no waste collection on December 25 and January 1. If your waste collection regularly falls on Thursday, your collection will be moved up to Monday, December 22 and Monday, December 29. The Eco Stations, the Edmonton Waste Management Centre and the Reuse Centre are closed on December 25 and 26, as well as January 1. Regular business hours will otherwise apply to these facilities. Christmas tree disposal
Beginning this year, natural Christmas tree disposal is changing in Edmonton. While trees are no longer being picked up from the curb, residents can use several no-charge tree disposal options. Residents can drop-off trees at any Community Recycling Depot from December 27 to February 7, 2026, or at any Eco Station or the Edmonton Waste Management Centre during regular operating hours. Please ensure all ornaments, decorations and lights are removed from your natural tree before disposing of it. Visit edmonton.ca/ChristmasTreeCollectionfor more information.

City Hall
Over the holiday season, City Hall will be open the following hours:
  • December 24: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • December 25 (Christmas Day): Closed
  • December 26 (Boxing Day): Closed
  • December 27: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • December 28: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • December 29: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • December 30: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • December 31 (extended for New Years Eve programming): 8 a.m. to 1 a.m.
  • January 1 (New Year's day): 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Regular building hours will resume on January 2, 2026. Please note that these modified building hours do not include the parkade, which will operate under regular hours.

Edmonton Valley Zoo
The Edmonton Valley Zoo will be open daily for Zoominescence from 4:30 to 10 p.m. until January 4, with the exception of December 24 and 25. Admissions are accepted until 9 p.m. Visit
edmonton.ca/ZooEventsfor more information. Tickets can be booked at MoveLearnPlay.edmonton.ca.

Please note that the Zoominescence evening hours will be the ONLY time the zoo is open during this period. As of January 5, the zoo will return to regular operational hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Thursday to Sunday. The zoo will be closed Monday to Wednesday.

Muttart Conservatory

The Muttart Conservatory is open daily, except on December 25. Hours of operation can be found online at
edmonton.ca/Muttart. Winter Wonderland is on display in the Feature Pyramid and will be open until January 4.

John Janzen Nature Centre
John Janzen Nature Centre remains closed due to a significant flood that occurred last spring.

Recreation Centres
All City recreation centres will be closed on December 25. Statutory holiday hours and some facility closures will be in effect during the holiday break.

The exact hours of operation differ for each facility on December 24, 26, 31 and January 1:
  • Closing at 4 p.m.: Kinsmen, Booster Juice/Terwillegar, The Meadows, Clareview, Commonwealth, Mill Woods, Londonderry, Dr. Anne Anderson and St. FX's.
  • Closing at noon: ACT, Bonnie Doon, Confederation, Eastglen, Grand Trunk, Hardisty, Jasper Place and O'Leary.

Registered and drop-in programs and classes will also be affected by holiday hours. There will be no instructor-led classes on December 24 or December 31. Visit

School Zone snow removal
The City will be clearing snow and removing windrows in the 634 school zones in Edmonton, depending on weather. Residents can expect heavy equipment as crews stack and remove snow to make the areas safe for when school resumes.

Street parking will be prohibited in these areas and will be indicated with temporary "no parking" signage. Parking may resume as each school zone is completed. Snow removal operations will run daily starting December 22 and expected to be completed by January 4.

311 hours
311 will continue to operate on regular hours during the holidays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., six days a week, Monday through Saturday. 311 will be closed for statutory holidays on December 25, 26 and January 1. Essential public safety concerns are accepted during the closed Sundays and statutory holidays.

Edmonton Service Centre
The Edmonton Service Centre, including ETS Lost & Found, will be closed for statutory holidays on December 25, 26 and January 1. Regular hours apply on other days: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
