West Jordan Float Wins Best Spirit of Harvest Days

The West Jordan 2026 parade float won the Spirit of Harvest Days in Midvale this August.

"What better way to honor Harvest Days than with the beets that were once harvested in both of our communities," Midvale's Mayor Dustin Gettel said. "Thank you, Mayor Dirk Burton and city staff for the awesome float!"

Covered in happy sugar beets, "rooted in community," the float showed West Jordan's timeline. One beet was dressed in patriotic gear to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, while another stood with a wagon full of harvested beets. A cowboy beet rode high on a bucking bull, while another landed a handplant at Wheels Park.

Through this float we celebrated our past and future, the sugar beet farms started by our families in the mid-1800s, our 71-year tradition of Western Stampede, and our new Wheels Park. Each of these has brought our neighbors together and connected us as a community. We are proud to be recognized by Harvest Days. Thank you to our neighbor, Midvale City!

Fun Fact: Did you know that when Midvale and West Jordan were farming communities, children were often let out of school during harvest time to help bring in the crops? Ask your grandparents who grew up in these areas!
