From the Office of the Mayor: Condemnation of Violence

Like many of you, I was shocked and saddened to learn of the assassination of Charlie Kirk. As Mayor, together with my colleagues on the City Council, and many of our residents and staff, our thoughts and prayers are directed to his family and we hope they are comforted in this time of loss.

Violence in all forms should be condemned. Charlie Kirk invited input from any perspective in a true form of public dialogue. His willingness to listen to opposing views and answer without anger or disrespect is a model to which we can all aspire.

I am so proud that in San Clemente we have a tradition of having lively debate, emotional public discourse and regular disagreement on the issues facing our community without violence or personal threats. We may have different ideas and opinions on the best solutions to our challenges, but we will continue to listen and learn from each other as we engage in something we all have in common, protecting and preserving our liberties as guaranteed in the Bill of Rights and enhancing the quality of life here in San Clemente.

As requested by President Trump, the City of San Clemente has lowered the flag at City facilities to half-mast in honor of the contributions of Charlie Kirk.

Steve Knoblock, Esq.
Mayor, City of San Clemente
