NMMA today announced Dave Marlow, senior director of product integrity at Brunswick Corporation, as the recipient of the 2026 Marine Industry Lifetime Achievement Award in Memory of Charles Chapman. The award recognizes Marlow's four decades of leadership advancing boating safety, regulatory alignment and technical standards across the recreational marine industry.
Marlow's career has been defined by a sustained focus on product safety and compliance, shaping both company practices and broader industry frameworks. He joined Sea Ray Boats in 1986 and has spent his entire career with Brunswick Corporation, progressing through engineering and product development roles to lead enterprise-wide product integrity. In his current role, he provides strategic oversight of safety, regulatory policy and compliance across Brunswick's global portfolio, working closely with the legal, engineering and government affairs teams.
His leadership has helped establish a culture of accountability and risk management, with a consistent approach to safety standards across manufacturing and engineering functions. Marlow has also played a central role in developing audit and certification programs that support product quality and regulatory compliance at scale.
Marlow has made lasting industry-wide impact as a longstanding contributor to industry standards development. He has been actively involved with the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) for more than 30 years, serving as chair of the board of directors and chair of the technical board, while continuing to support standards committee work. He also contributes to NMMA committees and certification initiatives that guide best practices across the industry.
Internationally, Marlow has helped shape global marine standards through his work with the International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee 188 for recreational craft. His leadership as a U.S. delegate and working group convener has supported alignment across European and global regulatory frameworks, improving market access and certification pathways for manufacturers.
A respected voice in boating safety, Marlow has worked closely with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), including serving as chair of the National Boating Safety Advisory Committee. His service has earned multiple public service commendations, including the USCG's Meritorious Public Service Award.
"Dave's career reflects a deep and lasting commitment to advancing safety and standards across recreational boating," said Frank Hugelmeyer, NMMA president and chief executive officer. "His technical leadership, collaborative approach and dedication to continuous improvement have strengthened the foundation of our industry and improved the experience for boaters worldwide."
