Rep. Sykes Announces $400,000 for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services in Ohio's 13th District

AKRON, OHIO - Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $400,000 in continuation funding for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services to Ohio's 13th Congressional District. The funding, awarded to Oriana House, supports the Akron Municipal Recovery Court and the Summit County Turning Point Collaborative Drug Court Program, which serve individuals with mental illnesses or substance abuse disorders who come into contact with the justice system.

"Programs that support individuals with mental illness in the criminal justice system are essential for breaking the cycle of incarceration and promoting recovery. Investing $400,000 to expand programs like Summit County's Valor Court to support veterans and the PIVOT Drug Court to support individuals with substance abuse issues creates a more just and humane system that prioritizes rehabilitation and reintegration into society," said Rep. Sykes.

"Thank you to Congresswoman Emilia Sykes for the continuation of this important funding, used in part to support Summit County's only adult felony drug court program, Turning Point," said Judge Joy Malek Oldfield. "This funding strengthens access to treatment and recovery support, and assists our participants working towards stability and sobriety. Judge Oldfield and the Summit County Turning Point Program are grateful to work alongside Congresswoman Sykes, the Oriana House, Judge Jon Oldham and Akron Recovery Court towards a stronger, safer and healthier community."
