Senators Markey and Warren Release Statement on Trump's Repeat Rollback of Protections for Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument

Washington (February 26, 2026) - Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) today released the following statement on Trump's latest rollback of protections the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument.

"Americans deserve a clean and healthy environment-now and for generations to come. The Antiquities Act was designed to support this critical mission, including in the unique and delicate ecosystems of the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts National Marine Monument, by designating monuments-not eliminating them. President Trump's rollback of protections goes against clear legal precedent, creating the risks and uncertainty-both legal and environmental-that have been hallmarks of his administration. And his brazen attempts to solicit votes in exchange for his actions is only the latest in a long line of outrageous attacks on our country's rule of law and fair regulatory process."
