TOKYO, October 5, 2026 - Goldman Sachs Japan Co., Ltd. announced today that Shigeru Ariizumi has joined Goldman Sachs as an International Advisor, effective October 1, 2026.
Mr. Ariizumi began his career at Japan's Ministry of Finance in 1988 and subsequently served in senior positions at the Ministry of Finance, the Financial Services Agency (FSA), the Japan Fair Trade Commission, and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). He held a number of key leadership roles, primarily within the Ministry of Finance's Budget Bureau and International Bureau and at the FSA, before retiring from public service in July 2025 as Vice Minister for International Affairs at the Financial Services Agency. During this distinguished career, he represented Japan at the deputy vice finance minister level at the G7 and G20, and was responsible for foreign exchange markets and the management of Japan's foreign exchange reserves. He also served as Chair of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) and Vice Chairman of the Board of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). Since February 2026, he has served as Special Counsel at Mori Hamada, and is admitted to practice law in both Japan and New York.
International Advisors are external experts appointed by Goldman Sachs globally to provide strategic insights and advice to the firm's leadership and clients on political, economic, regulatory, and industry developments. Mr. Ariizumi possesses deep knowledge of the global macroeconomic landscape and the implications of economic and policy developments for financial markets and the Japanese economy. He also has broad experience and insight into the evolution of international financial regulatory frameworks and the practical implementation of financial supervision and regulation in Japan. Goldman Sachs has appointed Mr. Ariizumi as its first International Advisor in Japan, recognizing the depth of expertise and breadth of perspective he brings to the role. Going forward, he will provide strategic counsel on the firm's business priorities and its response to evolving market and regulatory developments.
