Lowenstein Sandler is pleased to announce that Joshua Cook has joined the firm as a partner in its Emerging Companies & Venture Capital (ECVC) group. Cook has spent the past 25 years advising start-ups, growth companies, and venture funds in San Francisco and Silicon Valley, and he will continue this work with Lowenstein's ECVC team, splitting his time between San Francisco and Palo Alto. His arrival further strengthens the firm's presence in Northern California and deepens its ties to the broader San Francisco startup/venture ecosystem.
Cook is the latest in a strategic series of lateral partner additions to the firm's ECVC group. Sara R. Werner joined the firm as New York-based partner in June, following recent partner hires Abraham J. Kwon and Leia K. Galasso both in New York; and Armando Castro in Palo Alto.
Cook advises startups and emerging growth companies, venture capital and private equity funds, leading incubators and more. He counsels entrepreneurs and companies across the tech sector at every stage, handling seed, venture and growth deals, navigating mergers and acquisitions and offering comprehensive corporate representation. Cook offers dual perspective as an advisor and an operator, blending hands-on experience with a deep understanding of founders' needs.
Prior to joining Lowenstein, Cook was a San Francisco-based partner at Goodwin. He also served as President of Proof Holdings, Inc., a venture-backed NFT art and blockchain startup. Earlier in his career, Cook was a partner at Gunderson Dettmer where he helped launch and lead Gunderson's San Francisco office.
Ed Zimmerman who Chairs Lowenstein's ECVC group, says: "We've known and enjoyed working opposite Josh for years, as he's a well-known lead lawyer in the venture and tech community, valued for his trusted relationships with founders and investors. Josh brings decades of experience and relationships and we're proud to have him as the third recently added partner in our Bay area ECVC team, which we're excited to continue to expand."
Cook says: "Since Ed and Anthony Pergola co-founded Lowenstein's ECVC group in the 1990s, they and Lowenstein's team have been mainstays in the venture capital and tech communities. and have been opposite them and Lowenstein's Palo Alto team (led by Anthony W. Raymundo) in numerous deals. I've grown to know them well and really respect them as we have all been a part of the industry's exciting evolution over the past decades." He adds: "Continuing to champion founders is deeply important to me, and I am excited to build on and contribute to the sophisticated platform Lowenstein brings to serve their needs."
Anthony W. Raymundo, Managing Partner of Lowenstein's Palo Alto office, adds: "Josh is a powerhouse in ECVC, and as the 6th lateral partner to join our ECVC team in the last 18 months, Josh continues our meaningful ramping up in venture and tech, especially here in the San Francisco Bay area."
