Commercial Fire in the 1900 Block of West El Camino Real

On Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 9:06 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received reporting smoke coming from a commercial building in the 1900 block of West El Camino Real.

Fire units were dispatched at 9:06 p.m. and arrived on scene at 9:11 p.m. Units found an active fire above a commercial business. The fire was in the façade, between the building's ceiling and roof. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames with a preconnected 1¾-inch fire attack hose line, preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring businesses in the commercial structure.

A Palo Alto Battalion Chief and Truck Company assisted by bringing additional resources to the scene. Firefighters performed an extensive overhaul of the building by opening walls and the ceiling to ensure the flames were completely extinguished.

The fire was extinguished with no injuries. The Mountain View Police Department provided traffic control for 60 minutes while fire units and equipment were on the scene.

The origin of the fire was the façade where an electric sign had been removed earlier that day. The cause of the fire is undetermined. The estimated damage to the structure is $30,000. The building was turned over to the property manager before fire crews left the scene.
