Marion Fire Department Recruiting Additional Community Emergency Response Team Volunteers

Are you passionate about service and interested in helping reduce the impacts of emergencies and disasters? The Marion Fire Department is seeking additional volunteers to support the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Marion. Applications are being accepted now through Nov. 30, 2025. "CERT members will help Marion be more resilient to the impacts of emergencies and disasters," said Fire Chief Tom Fagan. "Be it a medical emergency, fire, flood, tornado, ice storm or other large-scale event, CERT volunteers use education and training to help the community prepare for and respond to large incidents. With CERT, everyone brings a skillset." Designed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), CERTs provide volunteers who are integrated into the community response structure. The City of Marion's CERT team will receive training from Linn County Emergency Management and the Marion Fire Department. Previous experience is not required. Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid Iowa driver's license and complete the 20+ hour FEMA Community Emergency Response Team training curriculum (provided by the Marion Fire Department and Linn County Emergency Management staff). Learn more and apply at https://www.cityofmarion.org/employment. Questions may be directed to the Marion Fire Department at 319-377-8237.
