Chester County Commissioners Proclaim Fire Prevention Week

On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the Chester County Commissioners, joined by Chief Fire Marshal John Weer, proclaimed the week of October 5-11 to be Fire Prevention Week in Chester County.

Fire Prevention Week is a national observance started in 1925. This year, the theme of Fire Prevention Week is Charge into Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.

Anything with a lithium-ion battery, like cellphones, laptops, power tools, or e-bikes, can become a fire hazard if not purchased, charged, or disposed of safely.

Key safety tips include buying only products from reputable, recognized brands, using original or manufacturer-approved chargers on hard surfaces, and recycling old batteries responsibly at proper drop-off locations. Take a look at the Chester County Solid Waste Authority for more information on where to safely recycle Lithium-Ion batteries.
