10 March 2026, Brussels - Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi met with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas.
The foreign ministers of the Republic of Moldova and the European Union discussed the next steps in Moldova's EU accession process, as well as regional security developments and the importance of close cooperation in the current context.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi thanked the EU for its contribution to strengthening Moldova's resilience through the implementation of the Security and Defence Partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, signed on 21 May 2024. The Republic of Moldova was the first country to conclude such a partnership with the EU, and this model of cooperation has subsequently been applied in relations with eight other states.
Minister Mihai Popșoi highlighted the importance of assistance provided through the European Peace Facility for the modernisation of the National Army of the Republic of Moldova, including efforts to enhance the safety of the country's airspace. In this context, Moldova reiterated its interest in continuing to benefit from EU support in the coming years.
The Deputy Prime Minister also reaffirmed the Republic of Moldova's commitment to align with the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy, underlining that this reflects Moldova's firm attachment to European values and the EU's common positions.
"The European Union's support helps us become stronger and more resilient in the face of today's challenges and contributes to maintaining the pace of the integration process. Our country deserves its place in the European family and is steadily strengthening its capacities to contribute actively to European security. Together with our partners, we are building a safer and more prosperous Moldova," said Mihai Popșoi.
The EU High Representative, Kaja Kallas, welcomed the progress made by the Republic of Moldova on its European path and reiterated support for strengthening cooperation in the field of security and defence in order to enhance the state's resilience and the safety of its citizens.
