Natural Gas News - September 8, 2025
Mansfield Market Assessment
Market is up today on the heels of NGPL extending its firm natural gas storage and transportation capacity another week, which is 300K Dth/day less hitting the Gulf box. Production is holding and it looks like we might be in a small preseason winter rally. We believe the market is trying to decide if we have enough production on for winter. We believe 4 Tcf is still on the table for End of October. Power burn is off weather adjusted and we will be on season lows in terms of demand over the next 2 weeks.
Russia-China Gas Deal May Seal New Gas World Order
The signing of the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline deal by the presidents of Russia and China was perhaps the biggest news to come out of the two leaders' meeting earlier this month. It was also the deal that may very well make the new global natural gas flow order permanent, potentially interfering with President Trump's energy dominance ambitions. The Power of Siberia 2 project has been in the works for years. Yet China took its time deciding to commit to it. Now, the decision has been made, and although details have yet to be tailored, the signal is clear: China will be sourcing more natural gas from Russia-a lot more.
