Wentworth's Master of Science in Bioengineering program balances theory, simulation, and laboratory exercises, giving students the advanced skills and knowledge needed to model, analyze, design, and realize physical systems, components, and processes. Students are expected to enter the program having obtained a Bachelor's in any engineering field, Biotechnology, or other related fields.
Start Strong with a Bioengineering Bootcamp
Students begin the program in mid-August with an intensive Bioengineering Bootcamp at Boston University, gaining early exposure to BU's labs, workshops, and research environment. Throughout the year, students may also participate in BU activities, events, and specialized training opportunities.
Research Powered by BU's BTEC
A defining feature of this program is its connection to Boston University's Bioengineering Technology & Entrepreneurship Center (BTEC), a state-of-the-art training facility that enhances project-based research, design, and translational engineering education. This collaboration enables students to work with cutting-edge technology while preparing for high-skill roles in the regional life sciences economy.
Student Funding Opportunities
Five incoming students will receive a fellowship from the NSF* that includes full tuition funding plus a $37,000 stipend for the year.
Essential Skills
Graduates develop a powerful technical toolkit that aligns directly with industry demand. Skills supported by the program include:
These skills position students for success in R&D, device development, regulatory pathways, and advanced manufacturing roles across the biotech ecosystem.
Through experiential learning, and a partnership with Boston University, students build skills that support both research and industry careers. Students will attend professional development workshops in Science Communication, Ethics, Translational Science, and Project Management. See Coursework for more details.
