Mediterranean partners met to discuss the future of jobs and skills

The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) High-Level Conference brought together Ministers from UfM Member States, senior policymakers, social partners, private sector, and experts from across sectors.

The discussions took place in two sessions, focused on future of jobs and skills, with emphasise on sharing best practices, fostering open dialogue, and exploring strategic interventions to strengthen labour market resilience and dynamism in the Mediterranean.

The conference was organised by the Maltese Ministry for Home Affairs, Security and Employment in collaboration with the European Commission and the UfM.

Executive Vice-President Mînzatu opened the Conference together with the Maltese Minister for Home Affairs, Security, and Employment, the Honourable Minister Camilleri.

"The future of jobs and skills in the Mediterranean region holds immense potential. Working together, we can take actions to better support our people and recognise their talent - this will make for a more resilient and adaptable workforce, ready to meet the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow."

On 14 October, the national focal points from the Member States of the UfM together with the Social Partners convened in Malta for the 19th UfM Regional Platform on Employment and Labour.

This key meeting aimed to prepare the next UfM Action Plan on Employment and Labour 2026-2028 and its accompanying Workplan with the activities to be set up for 2026.

In addition, the participants discussed the charter emanating from the Community of Practice (CoP) on Youth Employment in the Southern Mediterranean and were debriefed on the state of play of the second cohort of the Community of Practice Supporting Transition from Education to Employment Readiness (STEER).

The UfM Member States also discussed the final UfM cross-country reportand the Online Tracking Tool being developed to store and visualize collected information and trends both thematically and geographically.
