PR No. 135 Sahiwal: April 14, 2026

Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani visited the residence of Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Pir Syed Imran Ahmed Shah, to offer condolences on the demise of his mother. The Chairman Senate expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, praying that Almighty Allah grants the departed soul the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous and bestows patience and strength upon the family to bear this irreparable loss. Member of the Provincial Assembly Malik Muhammad Arshad and Zaki Chaudhry of the Pakistan Peoples Party were also present on the occasion.

Speaking to media representatives, Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani stated that Pakistan, as a responsible nuclear state, has consistently demonstrated restraint, patience, and maturity, even in the face of aggression, and has always acted in accordance with international laws by responding only in self-defense when required. He observed that Pakistan exercised maximum restraint to project itself as a responsible state and avoided overreaction, despite provocations and violations of international norms. He paid tribute to the President, Prime Minister, Pakistan's diplomatic leadership, including the Foreign Office and key stakeholders, as well as the military leadership, for handling complex regional challenges with wisdom, composure, and responsibility.

He further stated that Pakistan has adopted a policy of complete neutrality in evolving regional situations, which has strengthened international confidence in the country as a credible and responsible actor, enabling it to play a constructive role in facilitating dialogue and de-escalation. He noted that global powers, including the United States, as well as other world leaders, have acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan's sincere and balanced efforts. He added that current challenges are not confined to one country but have broader global implications affecting other regions, and emphasized that such issues cannot be resolved in a single meeting but require sustained diplomatic engagement, continued dialogue, and cooperation among nations to maintain ceasefires and prevent further escalation.

The Chairman Senate also acknowledged the positive role of friendly countries, including China, in supporting peace efforts and facilitating ceasefire arrangements between Pakistan and Afghanistan, and reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to neutrality, peace, and constructive engagement at both regional and global levels. He emphasized the need for unity within the Muslim world, noting that while such unity has always been important, it is now more essential than ever. He highlighted that platforms such as the OIC are playing their role, while the international community at large continues to recognize Pakistan's constructive contributions.

On domestic matters, he stated that issues such as load-shedding have persisted over time and would be addressed in upcoming parliamentary sessions following the conclusion of the current session held to facilitate negotiations. He reaffirmed that the Pakistan Peoples Party stands with the government as a cooperative partner, supporting positive policies while also offering constructive criticism where necessary to improve governance and legislative processes. He added that although not formally part of the government, the party continues to play a responsible and supportive role in policy formulation and national interest.

The Chairman Senate reiterated Pakistan's commitment to peace, stability, and responsible global engagement, emphasizing that the country will continue its efforts to promote dialogue, prevent conflict, and strengthen its role as a balanced and credible state in the international community.
