On 21-22 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, attended the NATO Foreign Ministers meeting in Sweden. During the meeting, the Allies discussed preparations for the upcoming NATO summit, strengthening collective defence, increasing defence funding, and ensuring long-term support for Ukraine.
The ministerial meeting focused on the need to further strengthen NATO's deterrence and defence posture, increase defence investment, and ensure faster development of the defence industry. Coherent and long-term support for Ukraine to boost its ability to defend itself against the Russian aggression was also highlighted.
"Russia remains the biggest threat to the Euro-Atlantic security, so NATO's unity, increased defence investments, and long-term support for Ukraine are essential for our common security. We need to further strengthen the Alliance's defence capabilities and ensure that NATO is ready to respond effectively to today's and tomorrow's security challenges," said Minister Budrys.
The outcomes of the NATO Foreign Ministers' meeting will contribute to preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit, where decisions will be made on further strengthening the Alliance and supporting Ukraine.
