Your City at Work: From the Mayor's Desk

Read my statement on the Board of Education's recent action reinstating free school lunches in the FY2026-2027 Budget: "I'm grateful to the Board of Education for reinstating free school lunches in their FY2026-2027 budget. At a time when food insecurity is rising and families continue to face economic uncertainty and cuts to SNAP benefits, this decision ensures that every child has consistent, reliable access to a meal during the school day - allowing them to focus on learning, not hunger. My administration will continue to work with the Stamford Food Collaborative to ensure residents have access to food resources during these challenging times, and I urge the Board of Finance to support this reinstated funding. I also commend Governor Lamont for the proposed $12 million investment to fund universal breakfast meals statewide.

My administration remains focused on strengthening collaboration with our local social service providers, food pantries, and nonprofit partners to connect families with critical resources that extend beyond the school day. These partnerships and investments reflect our commitment to supporting the overall health and well-being of our community."
