August 2026 crude steel production

World crude steel production for the 70 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 144.2 million tonnes (Mt) in August 2026, a 1.2% decrease compared to August 2025.

Crude steel production by region

Africa produced 2.1 Mt in August 2026, up 8.8% on August 2025. Asia and Oceania produced
106.7 Mt, down 1.4%. The EU (27) produced 8.9 Mt, down 1.0%. Europe, Other produced 3.8 Mt, up 1.2%. The Middle East produced 3.7 Mt, down 4.6%. North America produced 9.4 Mt, up 3.9%. Russia & other CIS + Ukraine produced 6.3 Mt, down 5.6%. South America produced 3.4 Mt, down 4.9%.

China produced 74.6 Mt in August 2026, down 3.7% on August 2025. India produced 14.8 Mt, up 4.6%. The United States is estimated to have produced 7.3 Mt, up 3.0%. Japan produced 6.7 Mt, up 0.4%. Russia is estimated to have produced 5.5 Mt, down 0.3%. South Korea produced 5.4 Mt, up 2.6%. Türkiye produced 3.4 Mt, down 0.4%. Germany produced 2.6 Mt, up 1.7%. Brazil produced 2.7 Mt, down 6.2%. Viet Nam produced 2.7 Mt, up 36.4%.
