"We are deeply saddened by the event at the Islamic Center of San Diego and hold our Muslim community close in our hearts during this tragedy. Every student, family, and community member deserves to feel safe, valued, and able to worship and gather without fear. We stand firmly against hate in all its forms and remain committed to building a community rooted in belonging, dignity, and care for one another.
Five of our nearby schools went on lockdown while the incident unfolded, and the lockdowns have been lifted. I want to thank our school police, the San Diego Police Department, and all the first responders for their swift action.
Our schools are making our counselors available for any of our students and families who may be affected by the tragic event that occurred in our community. Hate has no place in our community or schools."
