DSTG's Dr Phyo San wins 2026 Women in AI APAC Award

Dr Phyo San from Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) has won the AI in Defence and Intelligence category at the 2026 Women in AI APAC Awards, recognising her outstanding contributions to artificial intelligence supporting Defence capability and national security outcomes.

Dr San, a Senior Data Researcher within DSTG's Digital AI Systems team, was honoured for her leadership and innovation in applying advanced AI technologies to address complex operational and capability challenges for Defence.

The AI in Defence and Intelligence category recognises women who are making significant advances across defence, intelligence, aerospace and geospatial data. Dr San's award acknowledges her expertise, impact and commitment to developing cutting-edge AI solutions that strengthen Australia's national security.

Chief Defence Scientist Professor Tanya Monro said Dr San's award recognised both her outstanding contribution to artificial intelligence and the impact of DSTG's science and technology workforce.

"Dr San's achievement reflects her exceptional expertise, innovation and leadership in applying artificial intelligence to some of Defence's most complex challenges. Her work is helping to strengthen Defence capability and support Australia's national security priorities."

"This award is a significant recognition of Dr San's contributions and underscores the depth of talent across DSTG.
