Duckworth Statement on Temporary Restraining Order Barring National Guard Troops in Illinois

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] - U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today released the following statement in response to District Judge April M. Perry's ruling granting a temporary restraining order and blocking National Guard troop federalization and deployment in Illinois:

"Today, a federal court agreed with what we've been saying all along: there is no need for National Guard troops to be federalized and sent to Illinois against our state's wishes. I'm relieved to see this temporary restraining order granted, but we have much more to do to push back against Trump's illegal power grab and ensure Trump actually abides by this order. I will keep working alongside our state and local officials to ensure we're doing everything we can to stop Donald Trump and his Administration's assault on Chicago and Illinois."
