Marion Council has confirmed the delivery of 6 new tennis courts for the Marion Tennis Club and a new junior soccer pitch for Sturt Marion Thunder Soccer Club, following a decision at Tuesday night's General Council Meeting.

A new home for the Marion Tennis Club will be constructed on the southern portion of the former croquet club at 262 Sturt Road, which will include a new pavilion and 4 courts.

An additional 2 courts will be constructed on the former Marion RSL Bowling Green site on Norfolk Road.

The proposal will include turf remediation to build an U11 soccer pitch on the northern parcel of former croquet club site for the Sturt Marion Thunder Soccer Club, after Council approved a lease for the club in January 2026.

Following endorsement of the Marion Basketball Stadium proposal in 2024, Marion Council had been working hard to find the tennis club a new home.

Mayor of Marion Kris Hanna said this was a great outcome for everyone.

"The tennis club gets 6 new courts and we're providing a new space for one of our fastest growing soccer clubs," Mayor Hanna said.

Council had considered several options and negotiated with the Marion Tennis Club in good faith to find a suitable solution over the past 2 years.

"I appreciate the Councillors and the Mayor for the hard work and long hours they've devoted to searching for a solution for the tennis club," Marion Tennis Club President Kym Morgan said.

"We have, together, found a great solution for the club, the community and the RSL."

Council is grateful for the State Government's $1.5 million funding commitment towards 6 courts.
