Prepare for Heavy Rains

A Flood Watch is in effect for LA County from 5 a.m. through 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14. The National Weather Service is forecasting a strong storm, with rainfall rates of 0.25 to 0.5 inches per hour during the peak of the storm.

Staying informed and preparing in advance is the best way to stay safe.

Safety Tips for Severe Rain

  • If you must drive, avoid driving through flooded areas. Just 6 inches of water can cause a loss of vehicle control or damage.
  • Never walk through moving water. It's difficult to gauge the depth or hidden dangers beneath the surface.
  • Always assume downed power lines are energized and dangerous. Call 9-1-1 to report them.
  • Strong storms can cause power outages. Prepare by securing medical needs that rely on electricity, stocking at least three days' worth of non-perishable food and water, and charging devices in advance.

Sandbags Available for All Arcadia Residents

Protective Barriers Installed in Fire Impacted Area
Following the Eaton Fire, homes nearest the burn area have been forecast as a Phase 1for debris and mudflow potential. Heavy-duty barricades have been installed at key locations in north Arcadia to help reduce debris and mudflows on streets during heavy rains. Residents in the burn area should be prepared for increased chances of flooding, debris, and mudflow - including impacts to yard space, outdoor furniture, grills, and pools.

Homes that were impacted by the recent fire that are concerned about mudflow into their property can contact the Public Works Services Department at (626) 254-2720 for more information.
