On May 20, Ambassador Jiang Feng, Head of the Chinese Mission to the African Union (AU), met with Prof. Gaspard Banyankimbona, AU Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation.
Ambassador Jiang briefed Commissioner Banyankimbona on the meeting between the Chinese and U.S. presidents, noting that the two heads of state agreed to build "a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability" as the new positioning of bilateral relations, a move welcomed by both peoples and the international community. Against the backdrop of China-U.S. relations entering a new phase, China stands ready to take the important initiatives of the "China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges" as an opportunity to continuously deepen cooperation with the AU in such fields as education, science and technology, digital transformation, and talent cultivation. China will also support greater exchanges among universities, research institutions, and young people on both sides, so as to achieve more practical outcomes in China-AU cooperation in education, science, and technology.
Commissioner Banyankimbona highly commended the outcomes of China-U.S. Summit, thanked the Chinese side for inviting him to attend the 2026 World Digital Education Conference, and stated that the AU is willing to further strengthen cooperation with China in relevant fields to jointly promote the growth and development of African youth and the capacity building of Africa.
