Foreign Ministry Provides Consular Protection in Colombia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its Embassy in Colombia, reports that it has so far received 120 calls to its emergency line, with 213 Mexican nationals requesting consular support or assistance following the earthquake that struck last Monday morning. The Embassy is helping Mexican nationals arrange their departure from the country, coordinating with various airlines, relocating those staying in hotels that sustained structural damage, and staying in ongoing contact with everyone who has requested assistance.

Given the mobility restrictions in some areas, including Armenia, Cali, and Pereira, the Embassy continues to assist Mexican nationals in vulnerable situations, among them a youth soccer team from Tijuana, Baja California, and other groups also in Colombia, with whom it remains in close, ongoing contact. Because several roads have been damaged and are currently impassable, more information is expected later today to clarify transportation options, with a view to scheduling flights back to Mexico in the coming days.

The Government of Mexico continues to communicate at the highest level with the Government of Colombia regarding any humanitarian aid, rescue teams, or other support Mexico may be able to provide.

To date, the Foreign Ministry has received no reports of Mexican nationals killed in yesterday's earthquake. The Ministry reiterates its commitment to providing consular assistance to anyone who needs it and has made available the emergency line of the Mexican Embassy in Colombia: +57 313 878 6028.
