2025-26 SWCC student-constructed house being planned

The Fuller Center for Housing of Southern Iowa, in partnership with Southwestern Community College, is beginning to plan for the 2025-26 student-constructed home and looking for its owner.

The mission of The Fuller Center for Housing of Southern Iowa is to promote collaborative and innovative partnerships with individuals and organizations in an unrelenting quest to provide adequate shelter for all people in need worldwide.

To be considered as the home owner, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Is either a US citizen or legal resident.
  2. Has a stable work history. (retired works)
  3. Has a bank account.
  4. Can demonstrate the ability to make the payments.
  5. Has a need for safe affordable housing.
  6. Has a family income at or below 80 percent of median income for the area depending on family size. For example, a family of one, $77,200, or a family of 4, $88,780.
  7. Invest 200 hours of sweat equity helping to build the home.
  8. Doesn't have a family member on the sex offender registry.

The lot will be donated by the City of Creston and may have a refurbished two-car detached garage.

Completion of the home is expected to be approximately July 1, 2026.
