Move-in for new incoming Boston University undergraduates attending Orientation will be Monday, August 24, and Tuesday, August 25. Students on those days have a two-hour window during their chosen moving shift to check in at their designated move-in location, pick up their Terrier Cards, and occupy their rooms. Any new student arriving after the first day of classes on September 2 should notify BU Housing.

Move-in for continuing students will take place between Friday, August 28, and Monday, August 31.

Before going to their check-in location, students living on campus must sign into the My Housing Portal on their mobile devices and go to the Assignment History section. Before their appointment time, a QR code will be added on this page of the application, which must be shown to a Residence Life staff member to check in.

Matriculation, the official ceremony welcoming the Class of 2030, will be held at Agganis Arena on Tuesday, September 1, at 11 am, and classes will begin the following day.

"There will be additional officers, as always, during the duration of move-in at all routes to assist with traffic flow," says Captain Lawrence Cuzzi of the Boston University Police Department (BUPD). With the renovation of Warren Towers ongoing, he says, "BUPD will be assisting with traffic flow along the Cummington Mall area."

Other relevant information, from BU's move-in website and University leaders:

  • What to bring. Some things are necessities at college, while others are best left home. Check out the University's suggestions.
  • When to come. If you need to change your move-in day or time, log into the My Housing Portal and cancel your original selection. You will be able to select a new appointment time.
  • Collecting stored items. If you placed personal belongings into the UPS Store summer storage program, your items will be available in designated areas near your check-in location. Please follow the posted signage to locate your storage return location.
  • When to ship stuff. If you plan to ship personal belongings (or your family plans to send you packages), schedule these items to arrive on, or after, the day you are scheduled to move in.
  • Students, parents, and helpers using moving trucks, vans, and box trucks. Avoid Storrow Drive and Soldiers Field Road in Boston and Memorial Drive in Cambridge, which are restricted to cars only and have height restrictions as low as nine feet. These types of vehicles will exceed this height limit and will likely strike or become stuck under the overpasses.
  • If you are driving to campus for move-in. Download and print your temporary Move-In Parking Permit and display it on the dashboard of your vehicle when parking in approved BU parking locations. Some of the approved parking lots may have a lowered parking gate. The QR code found on your permit can be scanned at the entrance and exit kiosks to raise gates during your move-in period. You may also use your phone to capture the QR code for use when scanning to raise these gates, but your permit must still be printed and displayed on the dashboard of your vehicle.
  • Employee parking restrictions. To accommodate arriving students and helpers during move-in, parking permit holders' access to the following parking facilities will be restricted or limited: Agganis Arena Outer Lot (A), 33 Harry Agganis Way Lot (C), Langsam Garage and Lot (B), and Warren Towers Garage (K).   • If you've brought a bike or scooter to campus. Stop by the BU Cycle Kitchen (BUCK) at 1019 Comm Ave to register it. Doing so will get you access to secure bike rooms campus-wide. All devices will be subject to a short maintenance check. If you need a little tune up, staff will be happy to help you schedule an appointment.   • Riding the T. Students who have determined the MBTA Student Semester Pass does not meet their needs can now tap to pay for individual trips on all MBTA buses and subway trains (including the Green Line) using a contactless credit card or smartphone with the MBTA's Charlie system.
  • Eating. Information regarding dining services, including hours of service at four all-you-care-to-eat dining rooms and more than 20 on-campus eateries, can be found by visiting Dining Services.

The BU Shuttle (BUS)

During move-in, the BUS will be running Summer 1 BU route service, with 30-minute frequency to 14 stops between the Charles River and Medical Campuses, weekdays from 6:30 am to midnight, and Saturdays from 6:30 am to 7 pm. The Fenway route will begin running its academic year Monday-through-Saturday service schedule on Monday, August 24. Commonwealth Avenue loop service begins its academic year schedule on Monday, August 24, and will include special service on Sunday, August 30, from 7 am to 7 pm. Late night route service begins its seven-days-a-week schedule on Monday, August 24, at 7 pm. And 1BU route academic year service (connecting the Charles River and Medical Campuses) and frequencies begin on Wednesday, September 2.
