Albares to travel to Brussels to promote Ceuta and Melilla within the European Union

The Minister will hold meetings with representatives of the European institutions to discuss the next steps towards better integrating Ceuta and Melilla into the EU's various instruments and bodies

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, will travel to Brussels on Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 and 9 September, for a series of working meetings with representatives of the European institutions, with the aim of progress towards better integrating Ceuta and Melilla into the various instruments and institutions of the European Union.

During his visit, the Minister will meet with representatives of the European Committee of the Regions; the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner; the European Commissioner for Trade, Maroš Šefčovič; the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica; and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

The meetings will provide an opportunity to formally propose strengthening the participation of Ceuta and Melilla in the European institutions, as well as to examine measures that would contribute to the fuller integration of both cities into the European project. Issues relating to the management of the European Union's external border and cooperation with the Southern Neighbourhood will also be addressed.​
