GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. The purpose of this MARADMIN is to provide
awareness of some of the current data management and artificial
intelligence training solutions available to Marines and Government
Civilians. These resources represent the currently available
training tools as the USMC expands its data management and
artificial intelligence (AI) training and education across the
force. The end state is to establish a baseline of basic awareness
for all Marines, with opportunities for more advanced, specialized
training for those seeking to develop deeper expertise in these
critical capabilities.
2. Background
2.a. Per ref (a) The Office of Secretary of Defense, via Chief
Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) and the Office of
the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering
(OUSD(R&E)) issued a formal memorandum on Jan 5, 2024, directing
Service Components of the intention to collaborate to prepare a plan
and guidance for assigning the eleven (11) Data, Analytics, and AI
(DA&AI)
Workforce roles. The collaborative approach supports assignment of
three-digit work role codes to civilian and military billets
performing tasks aligned to the billet tasks. To learn more about
the DoD's DWF and associated data and AI roles, visit the CDAO
Digital Commons: https:(slant)(slant)dod365.sharepoint-
mil.us(slant)sites(slant)CDA)-Digital-Commons
This platform will also serve as a central repository for future
training and education tools for the DoD.
2.b. DC CD&I, CG TECOM, MIU, and DC I representatives established
and led an informal OPT to develop a Data Management and Analysis
Training and Education Implementation Plan. The primary output from
the OPT was preliminary identification of USMC MOS' aligned to the
DA&AI Workforce roles.
2.c. In parallel to the efforts conducted in paragraph 2b, DC I
developed a draft Artificial Intelligence Implementation Plan, ref
(b). Per this reference, CG TECOM was tasked with identifying
available learning tools, resources, and current use-cases across
DoD and industry and to centralize these resources into a repository
for proactive learning, ensuring commanders and leaders are
empowered to promote and authorize data and AI training.
2.d. This MARADMIN identifies some of the existing DA&AI Workforce
training available to Marines and Government Civilians. TECOM, in
conjunction with the on-going working groups and stakeholders will
continue to pursue additional training solutions to meet the
identified requirements. This includes an effort to create
designated career paths via an available platform for MOS and
civilian work codes identified in the outputs from the efforts in
paragraph 2.b. that are aligned to the specified data work roles
identified in ref (a).
3. Available Training for Marines and Government Civilians
3.a. MARINENET employs the Skillsoft and Percipio platforms, which
includes data management and artificial intelligence training
opportunities. Access varies based on the course requested. Some
Skillsoft courses are run natively in MARINENET system depending on
usage. Percipio is run from their system but with a by-name request
through MARINENET. Login to www.marinenet.usmc.mil, scroll down to
the Skillsoft button on the left of your screen and push it to see
links to both the Skillsoft Learning Platform as well as Percipio.
