Spirit Plaza reopens for the season after nearly $2.9 million refresh

After a $2.9-million redesign and renovation project, Spirit Plaza, a community space centered around iconic Spirit of Detroit statue, is now open for the season. The plaza has become a summer destination for food trucks, live entertainment and family fun including weekly favorites.

Spirit Plaza now boasts a new covered stage, swing set, larger more inclusive play area, more shade with additional seating, a turf lawn and more. Park planners were intentional about making the play area somewhere youth of all abilities could play.

Programming at Spirit Plaza will begin Saturday June 6, with a grand reopening celebration from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The event will feature DJs, fitness classes, food trucks, resource tables, inflatables, a gaming truck and more.
