Washington, January 26, 2026

Today, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09)and members of the Congressional Black Caucusissued the following statement:

"ICE is out of control and operating with impunity. Time and again, we have witnessed people in communities across our country terrorized and brutalized by masked ICE agents who believe they are above the law while being funded with our taxpayer dollars. We have seen babies detained and separated from their families, people harassed and having their rights violated, and now, once again, the cold-blooded killing of another innocent American. This violence, chaos, and lawlessness cannot stand.

"Congress has a responsibility to serve as a check on the lawlessness of Donald Trump and the Department of Homeland Security. The CBC is urging the Senate to do the right thing: wholly reject funding for ICE and demand an end to the federally sanctioned violence plaguing our communities."
